ADI selects Mini Handsfree for Compasso d’Oro Award

Italy’s Industrial Design Association pays tribute to the elegance and simplicity of Comelit’s door entry monitor

Mini Handsfree, the hands-free door entry monitor by Comelit Group Spa, has won the ADI Design Index Innovation Award and been listed in the ADI Design Index 2016, which includes all the products in contention for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro, the oldest worldwide design award, conceived by Gio Ponti in the 1950s.

The ADI (Associazione per il Disegno Industriale) has been organising the award since the 1960s, and picks the winners on an entirely impartial basis, following painstaking pre-selection by the association’s Permanent Observatory. Every year, a panel of experts assesses and selects the best products and services designed in keeping with Italian industrial design tradition, for later publication in the ADI Design Index yearbook, which is in effect a short-list for the Compasso d’Oro Award.

The panel assessed 907 products in 2016, but selected only 279, thus confirming the rigorous selection criteria applied. The selected products included the Mini Handsfree door entry monitor, which won the ADI Design Index award in the “Design of materials and technological systems” category. The truly striking features of this product are its elegance and contemporary design, which find expression in its clean lines and slim profiles. The white finish of the polished surface enhances the product’s understated appeal, thanks in part to the 4 LED-backlit sensitive touch buttons. The monitor features a 4.3” 16:9 colour screen.
