Hat-trick for Comelit in the German Design Awards

The winners of the German Design Awards 2017 have been revealed and Comelit products have won three prizes in the Buildings and Elements category, with Icona, Quadra and Maxi.

Sponsored by the German Design Council, the German Design Award was established in 1953 with the aim of sustaining and promoting design culture as an essential lever for competitiveness, innovation and research.

Designed in partnership with Diego Rossi and Innocenzo Rifino of the Milan-based design firm Habits, Comelit’s products were assessed by a jury of experts for the quality of their design, which has already been endorsed over the years by other prestigious industry awards.

The Quadra external unit for door entry monitor systems has a rectangular cuboid shape, square-cut edges and a thickness of just 23 mm, which convey elegance combined with a strong sense of solidity. The die-cast aluminium surface of Quadra houses a few essential elements. The vertical slit, which breaks up the otherwise block-like styling, contains a colour camera with a wide range of view. Four LED-backlit icons identify the main functions, while the call button features soft-touch technology, so is operated by simply brushing it with your fingers. Quadra won the Design Plus Award at the 2016 edition of Light+Building, and was selected for a Compasso d’Oro Award by the ADI as well as winning the Good Design Award in 2015.

The Icona door entry monitor, which won the Good Design Award in 2015, enhances interiors with its sophisticated, minimalist design. Icona features a scratch-proof, transparent polycarbonate surface and brushed metal edges, which house the unit’s complex technology. The white, backlit buttons are sensitive touch, and their secondary functions can be activated by swiping with the fingers. The 4.3” 16:9 wide colour touch-screen, meanwhile, responds to the lightest of touches.

The design features of Maxi also earned plaudits at the German Design Awards. This striking indoor door entry monitor is equipped with a 7” panoramic screen. Maxi is made with the same top-quality materials used in Icona, such as the polished polycarbonate surface and brushed steel finish, and is based on advanced, user-friendly technology, enclosed in a housing just 12 mm thick.
